Well, I don’t do this very often but the October Hero Arts Monthly Kit just called my name.
My Sister the Artist
A whilw back my grandson came through and ask..”Bebe..What is that?” He was looking up..on top of the hall book case and saw this.
You may be wondering too. This is a piece my sister did while in art school at Mississippi Southern.(Univ.Southern Mississippi today) She called it “a habitat for small animals”. You know how animls find what they need to establish a safe home for themselves and their young. Here is a closer look.
Can’t you just see a momma rabbit and her young finding this a safe place? Becky was the real artist in our family. She was studying art education and because of her health challenges was in need of open heart surgery before going into practice teaching. The doctors in Houston, while world renowned, were not able to give her her wish. She was only 23 years old when she left us and it left a hole on our family. These holes get patched but never filled. Today she would have been 70 years old…Is hard to imagine. Here are a couple more of her works.
CAS
CAS in the crafting world is’ copy and share’ or’ clean and simple’. Mine is the first. In one of my orders came this flyer from Echo Park Paper Co. Looked like a good design to CAS so I did on a card for the good neighbor who gave me the figs. The card is on the left. lol
I also got the mail out to my customer. Some of this was all ready to go. A few had to be a late night project.
Nature’s Inspiration
I love the wisteria vine. Yes it can be overtaking , but has such a sweet smell and brings on Spring like none other. My cousin gave me this vine several years and while she and I both hoped it would be purple ….white will have to do. So….I’m learning to “grow” Susan’s Garden from Elizabeth craft designs and it is time consuming, but well….what do you think?
Everything at once
The month of Feb. was full. First there was the On line Watercolor Class for Card Makers…Intermediate Techniques. Really good information and good examples of the teaching principals. Then there was the Gratitude 52sketchbook project by Jennifer Frith that confirms up to this point why I don’t scrapbook. It has been enlightening and thought provoking just not my thing. Only proud of a couple of pages so far. Maybe it ,or, I will get better as we go. Next was Sandy Allnock’s Paintalong. Now I know I really need better supplies. Boy…my wish list at Simon Says and Ellen Hutson ( or is it Hudson) is growing. Now it’s time for the Butterfly drop.
What is the butterfly drop? Awhile back Dina Kowal was ask to paint a butterfly for the Butterflyeffectbethechange organization. Of course her butterfly was beautiful as is all of her artistic creations. I thought…why not give it a try… so after getting in touch they sent me a blank wooden butterfly to paint, hide and let someone find (hopefully) and then have $250. donated to the charity of their choice. Next weekend is the drop. More information will be in the local newspaper on March 10 and the drop will be on March 12. I will post early clues on this blog on that day. Here is a picture of my creation. Good luck to all who go for it and please let me know who you are.
Now…remember…This is the day the Lord made…rejoice and be glad.
Still learning?????
This blog has been on going for awhile, just hasn’t gotten of the ground. Why is my text repeating it’s self over and over? So lets try this again…..
Like I’ve said before life keeps getting in the way of progress here. I get started then bam…something calls me away. Like…before Thanksgiving when my DH had a heart issue and had to have two stents put in. Then he had to have extensive oral surgery to get ready for heart surgery that the Dr.s have now decided is to dangerous. Which is fine since we weren’t really looking forward to that. Meds and life change is working out pretty well. Still some problems but hopefully the future will take care of that.
Our new granddaughter was born on Dec, 6. Just as pretty as her other sisters and her brother. Yes 4 under 4. Busy family but fun fun fun.
Several weeks ago, or maybe a month or so , time flies, our herd bull passed away. This is Tank…
New man on the ground at Journey End Farm. The girls are happy, he is happy with all the girls and we are looking forward to his babies coming someday. Our grandson announced he wants a bull but he want him to have horns and be either green or yellow. Lol. No horns thank you.
Learning something new. I have been very interested in Chameleon Blends pens. They are kinda pricey but so are the other options. There is a learning curve but so far I kinda like them and we will see if I order more. Being refillable is a plus. This card is my first attempt. Simple. The next picture is the inside which has a book mark. Sorry the sentiment doesn’t show .
This box is what I gave my son’s and DnL’s for Valentines. Good ole chocolate inside of course. Having recently discovered Lia Griffith I am learning how to make her beautiful paper flowers. Hers are so pretty and so real looking. the rose is my first attempt but I will make more. You can find her at Liagriffith.com . All of her paper crafting is so nice. Not just paper but of course I am drawn to the paper.
We have a sweet friend who has been under the weather, which is no place to be, and since Teal is her favorite color …well…this designer paper just cried out to me for her. She is better and I do hope she has a need for Thank You cards. Don’t we all at times?
Of course cards requires a gift box and yes the best things in life aren’t things at all.
Please let me know if you stumble upon this blog. Any one interested in my fun thing can get in touch and let me know. I would love to introduce you to paper crafting , or farm life as we know it. Until next time…Remember…This is the day the Lord made…Rejoice! (even if it is too cold to be happy about much except Spring which is just around the corner)
Paper Players #201
This was a small challenge for me. While the new DSP All Abloom is really pretty ( if you are into wall paper- which I am not) things started coming together then fell apart really fast. Just too much! Here is the fix….
Base: White Card Stock
Layer: #1 Mossy Meadows ( love this green)
#2 All Abloom DSP
Tag: #1 Daffodil Delight and All Abloom
#2 Calypso Coral ( because I don’t have Strawberry Slush) and Daffodil Delight. This is where some of the question came in. Too plain, so I added another layer of DD (because the tag has already been glued down) and embossed it.. ok…better but now the butterfly.
Butterfly: Daffodil Delight CS –Love DD but to much yellow ,so added another smaller die cut stamped with Calypso Coral. Still bad..so ..added a White CS die stamped with Calypso Coral. Much better to my way of thinking any way. Now to jazz it up a bit add Basic pearls so the butterfly has a body and scatter a few here and there to help balance the white peaking out on the base.
Well such is life in my world of crafting and card making.
There is always room for learning and beside this doesn’t have any thing to do with the price of eggs. lol
Do take a look at my web service at Stampin’Up! http://lateblooming.stampinup.net and let me know if I can be of help to you .If I can’t answer your questions I know people who can.
Have a great week and Remember…this is the Lords Day…Rejoice.
It not all Cards
Here at Journey End Farm it’s not all cards and stamps and ink and glue and tape. Nope there are flowers for real.
The picture turned out really bright but the common day lilies are bright and so pretty even it they are gone by morning.
I read a nice story ,years ago, in the old Victoria magazine about a lady who raised day lilies. Every evening she would go out
and”pick flower” . She would fill baskets and vases’ and buckets and bowls with every color in the rainbow from her garden . Can’t you just imagine the beauty. Next morning she would just dump them in the compost pile and wait for the evening again. Beautiful way to enjoy Gods creation.
Here is a picture of one of my gifts to Anna Marie on her first birthday.
Butterflies…lots of butterflies and one sweet baby girl growing up way too fast.
There is also a new baby of a different kind but just as important to us farmers.</p>
Do have a great weekend…until later. Remember… this is the Lords Day…Rejoice!
